Due to the overall environmental goals established at the project’s start, in combination with the diligent efforts of Demolition Contractor, W.E. O’Neil, we are proud to say that 100% of the 27,000 cubic yards of concrete removed from the demolished former Children’s Memorial Hospital structures has been diverted from landfills and will be recycled on-site for use as back fill within the foundation of the new buildings.
In addition, 97% of all other materials salvaged from the demolition will also be diverted from landfills and recycled on-site for other uses.
Not only did this effort reduce the overall environmental impact of the project, but reusing the concrete on-site eliminated the approximately 12,000 trucks that would have been necessary to remove the material from the site, ultimately alleviating road congestion and noise, as well as minimizing fuel costs and transportation expenses.
As always, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work deliver a new focal point of this vibrant neighborhood in a safe, efficient and sustainable manner.
